Spelling 3/31-4/3

Hello Everyone,

I hope you had a nice weekend. I would like to thank everyone who donated books to our classroom. We really appreciate and enjoy it. Reading is a wonderful thing, so thanks again for adding to our library. This week in reading we will be doing Long A spelled ai and ay. Please point these out when reading with your child. This Friday is jeans for scholarships. Students can wear jeans and their school shirt for one dollar, for two dollars they cans wear jeans and collared shirt (NO T-Shirts). All proceeds go towards scholarships for students here at St. Jerome. Please remember that reading is part of their homework. The reading log needs to be turned in on Mondays. Any missing reading logs will be counted as missing homework.

Week of 3/2-3/6

Hello Everyone,

Just a reminder that we are in charge of coffee and donuts this Sunday. Please try to attend the 9:00 am mass with your family. It would be nice to see all the first grade families there. This week we will be exploring long I spelled i_e and author’ purpose in reading. I would also like to encourage you to come and be one of our mystery readers. Please call me or write me a note and I’ll contact you as soon as I get your note.

Week of 2/16-2/19

Hello Everyone,

We’re starting off the week with rain! This week is a very special and important week. We will have the WCEA and WASC on campus. Let’s pray that all the hard work that is put in by parents and staff shows them that we are a great and wonderful school that cares about our children. This week we will continue with Long Aa and ch and th digraphs. In comprehension we will review predicting and reality and fantasy. Their animal projects are going home today. Please look over the instructions and due dates. Their first observation is due next Tuesday February 24, 2009. I will be giving one week to complete one observation. Late observations will be graded lower. The final project will be due Tue. 3/17/09. On another note, I just wanted to mention that not many students are turning in their reading logs. These are due no later than Monday, unless we have no school. Please make sure your child turns in their reading log on a weekly basis. There will be no school this Friday 2/20 and Mon. 2/23.

Math: We will start a new chapter in place value. We will learn to make groups of ten and to write numbers through 100.

Social Studies: We will be reviewing seasons and weather. We will also talk about how weather is different in other places.

Hello Everyone,

Open House was a success! It was nice to see you here and at mass on Sunday. We are finishing up unit three in reading and have a unit test next Monday. The unit test will cover nouns, pronouns, short vowels, and s and l blends. It will also cover reading comprehension. I will be reviewing all of these concepts this week. Don’t forget about our mandatory parent meeting on Mon. 2/2 at 7:15 pm.in the parish hall. This week is also catholic school’s week. Students who attended mass in uniform on Sunday 2/1 will be allowed to have free dress on Wednedsday 2/4. Friday is spirit day. Students can wear red , white, and black to school.

Spelling week of 1/6-1/9 Test 1/9 WELCOME BACK!

 I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing vacation.  It was a great time to spend with family and friends, but it is back to the daily grind.  We are continuing with our unit 3 in reading and a review of short e.  This week we will work with r and l blends.  The sight words for this month were in the December newsletter, please continue to work with them at home.

Next math test will be on Thursday Jan. 15.  It will cover subtraction, related addition and subtraction facts, and fact families.  I will start reviewing this week.  A practice test will go home on Wed. January 14th.
 
Social Studies:  We will begin a new unit.  Students will learn 7 continents and 4 oceans as well as different land forms.  Vocabulary for this week: weather season land ocean continent

Christmas Program

Hello Everyone!!!

What an exciting and busy week it's been.  Whew!!  Just a reminder about tomorrow's performance.  Dress code is black pants or skirts with a white dressy top.  Girls will be wearing a tissue paper flower so try not to put so much on their hair.  Please bring the students to the first grade classroom by 6:30 pm.  If it rains, bring them straight to church.  Let's hope it doesn't rain and that all goes well.  Hope everyone is has a wonderful Holiday Season.  Merry Christmas to all.
